Si Palace lives by name; Hai Palace, tired, can instead save money

Taiyang in Si/Hai in the Life Palace sits as a single star; opposite is Jumen, Wealth Palace is Tianliang in Chou/Wei, Career Palace is Taiyin in Mao/You. Speech and dispute are especially clear; once words leave the mouth, trouble comes easily. In Si Palace Taiyang is strong, called 升殿 (Shengdian, Ascending the Hall): stars on the sanfang all sit bright; name and authority keep up better; they live by reputation. The person is optimistic, outward, wants to be the head. Yet light scatters too wide: fond of debate, can win and cannot lose; after midlife energy easily fails, and feeling also heats first then wearies. Meeting many sha, they mostly handle affairs for people in power. In Hai Palace Taiyang’s light is weak: cold face, warm heart; they cannot resolve Jumen’s darkness; kin cannot be leaned on; better to go out early. If there is Lucun, Hua Lu, Tianma, though tired, they can instead save money.

Teacher Ming's reading: Taiyang in Si/Hai in the Life Palace

Students hear Ascending the Hall and often think it means a sure official post. I think Taiyang in Si/Hai: Ascending the Hall means large reputation and also large edge. Light scatters too wide; after midlife energy easily fails. Opposite is Jumen; speech and dispute are especially clear; once words leave the mouth, trouble comes easily. In plain words: light must be held in, or the road will not run long.

Differences between Taiyang in Si and in Hai

Si Palace Ascending the Hall: large reputation, large edge too

Career sitting in Si is called Ascending the Hall; stars on the sanfang all sit bright; when young it is easier to come to the front. Optimistic, outward, talented, yet proud, fond of debate, can win and cannot lose; easily dragged into dispute by petty people.

Hai Palace, light weak: cold face, warm heart; tired, they can grow rich

Hai Palace Taiyang is weak: hard, reserved; kin cannot be leaned on. Old books say blessing is incomplete. It likes auspicious stars to stir the person up. Meeting Lucun, Hua Lu, Tianma, light is drawn in; though tired, they can instead save money.

Opposite is Jumen: speech and dispute especially heavy

Taiyang belongs to fire: urgent, fond of putting the head out, itself governing speech and dispute. Opposite Jumen adds darkness. Si Palace: good speech, able to persuade, also fond of showing and stirring debate. Hai Palace is weak, more passive; words more easily go wrong.

Learning points: Taiyang in Si/Hai in the Life Palace

  1. Hai Palace: better to leave the hometown early and fight on their own: kinship is thin; staying in the native place, family is hard to lean on. Going out early to strive on their own, there is more chance to turn passive into active.
  2. Hai Palace meeting Kong–Jie: sudden chances instead: light already weak, then meeting Dikong Dijie is called 變景 (bianjing, scene-change)—there is instead sudden wealth or opportunity. The person is extreme yet quiet; odd peaks must be used on the right road.
  3. Si Palace Ascending the Hall: name larger than profit: add Hua Ke, Hua Quan, Hua Lu and they can come to the front, live by reputation; money follows name. Light scatters too wide; sometimes their standing is even less than their subordinates—watch empty fame.
  4. Hai Palace with Lu and Ma: though tired, they can still grow rich: light drawn in is instead favorable for seeking wealth. Meeting Hua Lu, Lucun, Tianma, though toilsome and rushing about, wealth is more solid; weak light can be turned into a condition for saving.
  5. Si Palace Taiyang finds it hard to submit to a mediocre superior: high-hearted, face-conscious. If the superior lacks enough ability and standing, they feel their luck is bad and talent unused; cooperation easily tightens.
  6. Si Palace meeting Huoxing Lingxing Kong–Jie: spending easily goes too far: light already scatters; add Huoxing, Lingxing, Tuoluo, Dikong, Dijie, and they are more lavish, money hard to save, display easily overdone.
  7. Si Palace meeting Kong–Jie: ideals high, ground does not connect: scattering plus Kong–Jie, the heart is even higher, ideas do not land, hands cannot keep up; they often feel talent unused.
  8. Hai Palace with many sha: in adversity the mind easily goes dark: light weak plus heavy sha; in a low tide it is hard to shake off self-pity and resentment; scheming grows heavier, the person turns idle, luck even harder to move forward.
  9. Si/Hai already has much speech and dispute; do not stack lawsuit stars: not advisable to stack Qingyang, Tianxing, Guanfu, Baihu. Taiyang Hua Ji, or Fortune Palace Tianji Hua Ji, makes lawsuits and storms even easier to start. Dispute mostly comes from Fortune Palace.
  10. With Lu and also Wenchang Wenqu, called 陽梁昌祿 Yang-Liang-Chang-Lu: Si Palace meeting Lucun or Hua Lu, then Wenchang Wenqu coming to meet: exams and public office are smoother; authority and salary both thicker; when young it is easier to come to the front.
