Taiyin is the moon. Bright, but the light is borrowed; soft, yet every night tide is tied to it.
In Zi Wei Dou Shu, many people see Taiyin and say: wealth star, mother, gentleness. Those three words are not wrong. They are too thin. What truly tires Taiyin is not doing—it is thinking. Wuqu’s labour is in the hands; Taiyin’s labour is in the mind. The same thing that has not happened yet, it can rehearse ten times on the pillow.
Teach Taiyin without teaching getting rich first. Listen first to how loud the inner noise is. Noise low, Taiyin nourishes. Noise high, Taiyin is overcast. Overview of the fourteen: Fourteen main stars. People, things, and careers: Taiyin symbols.
Taiyin’s base colour: drawing inward, and wearing inward
Taiyin is a yin-soft star. Reserve, rumination, maternal care, the tide of feeling—all sit on it. It does not shine outward like Taiyang. It takes feeling back in and digests slowly. When digestion finishes: thoughtfulness, fineness, the person at home who quietly gets things done. When it does not: worry, insomnia, anxiety borrowed from a future that has not arrived.
In chart terms, Taiyin can of course be wealth—especially for men, or when it enters Wealth, Happiness, or Property. A more accurate line: Taiyin measures how finely a person can live a life, and how much mind they pay as interest.
Taiyin in temple or bright: the mind is fine and has somewhere to land; money and feeling can both be held. Taiyin fallen: the mind is fine with nowhere to land; the person drifts, is sensitive, uses fantasy to patch reality. Both are fine. One is embroidery. The other is winding thread around one’s own fingers.
At home, Taiyin runs the inner work, and the giving often has no sound
Taiyin at home is the lamp still on at night. Meals, clothes, moods, a child’s socks—it sees them. Seeing, it does them, and does not always claim credit. The family gets used to it and thinks the house runs itself. Until the star is tired, ill, or major luck stirs Taiyin, the house discovers someone had been changing the bulb.
With Tianliang in the same palace or shining onto it, Taiyin gains a layer of prompting and pickiness. Tianliang is principle, an elder’s tone. These people at home are not only soft: after softness they still want you to improve. Labour plus principle easily becomes the role that is never satisfied and is always doing.
Meeting Pojun, childcare and family change are more violent. Children hard to raise, clashes of idea, even a very rebellious next generation, or leaving home for family reasons. Pojun breaks first; Taiyin still has to get through the night in the ruins. This pair can still have children. Admit first that the hours you pay will be far more than textbook “gentle maternal love.”
Psychologically, Taiyin is hiding, not mystery
Taiyin and Jumen in Happiness often answer each other: sentences not finished, the heart stored, outsiders finding you gentle while inside you are calculating or worrying. That is hiding, not cunning. Cunning is for winning. Hiding is often only fear that once it is said, the room will go chaotic, or the self will look too fragile.
So people with a clear Taiyin have strong feeling, and are easily trapped by that feeling. Pressed inward for long, they burn and stuff; in the severe case, anxiety and low mood. “Think more positively” is not four words that fix it. Give this star an outlet: writing, talking to a fixed person, turning worry into a list. Taiyin fears fog. It does not fear lists.
Set against Wuqu, it is clear. Wuqu tired shouts that the back hurts. Taiyin tired is still wondering whether tomorrow’s back will hurt. Ask a Taiyin person whether they sleep well before you ask how much they earn.
In women’s charts, Taiyin also often stands for how she adapts in marriage and in a group. A new city, a new in-law house, a job that requires reading faces: a strong Taiyin can adapt on the surface, while the inner strangeness stays a long time. Give her time. “You should blend in quickly” is less useful.
Education: Taiyin weights letters and bearing, not instant hands-on skill
Taiyin meeting or sharing a palace with Tianfu is like how a high household teaches children: character, bearing, and books first, then a craft. The Wuqu line is labour, practice, getting one thing made. The Taiyin line is “you should look like someone who has read.”
Parents who teach in Taiyin’s way raise children who care about face, about right and wrong, about how others see the family. The plus is cultivation. The minus is that the child may think a lot, blame themselves a lot, and start doing late. In modern marriage this schooling is still there: choosing a partner, stability and family style come first; how thick the feeling is ranks second.
People with strong Taiyin, when they teach their own children later, easily copy this set. Not wrong. They need a piece of Wuqu: let the child finish one concrete thing. Otherwise the house is all feeling and standards, and no finished work. For the learning entrance, also read Parents Palace and learning.
Feeling and choice: Taiyin wants safety, not stimulus
In marriage, Taiyin’s need is earthy: stability. A floor under the economy, a life that can be expected, knowing at night where people are. It can also have very deep feeling, but the feeling has to sit in a safe bowl. Ask it to live a drifting love and it will fall in love—then lose sleep.
Traditional society said the woman holds the inside, the man the outside. Taiyin finds a place more easily in that structure. The structure has changed; Taiyin has not vanished. It becomes this: between career and home, it weights “can we still live later” over “is it exciting now.”
So when you urge a Taiyin person to take a risk, give an exit. A dream with no exit they hear as threat. A dream with an exit, they can fill the details beautifully. Taiyin is not afraid. It wants the night arranged first, then it will gamble the day.
Men with Taiyin in Life Palace are often said to have feminine traits. That is a cheap line. More accurate: he is fine-grained, he minds the home, he decides with feeling, and money is mostly saved slowly by himself. Not a lack of ambition. His ambition grows on quality of life, not on a battlefield.
Reading Taiyin: palace, brightness, and sihua together
In Life Palace, character is the base colour of this article.
In Wealth or Property, the feel of money and house is strong—held, and also counted.
In Spouse, the relationship needs night talk, company, safety; roughness is hard to bear.
In Parents, home teaching is fine; learning leans literary and feeling.
In Health, rumination hurts the body; sleep and mood should be treated as illness, not a small habit.
Hua Lu holds; Hua Quan runs the house and the books; Hua Ke is name with softness; Hua Ji is labour and suspicion. Sihua: Sihua, 10-stem sihua. Ding-year Taiyin Hua Lu: Ding-year sihua.
Ziwei is the daytime seat. Taiyin is night water. Both have to be readable, or the chart has no day and night. Ziwei: Ziwei star.

Zi Wei Dou Shu Taiyin star FAQ
Does Taiyin always mean money?
No. Taiyin has a wealth image. Still check palace, temple-bright or fallen, whether Lu or Quan is there, whether malefics drain it. Fallen Taiyin: money and feeling are like moonlight—visible, hard to hold.
Does a strong Taiyin always mind the home?
It will see the home. That does not mean it is happy minding it. Seeing and being unable not to manage is labour. Minding the home and liking to mind it are two things. Tianliang added makes it more obligation.
If there is too much rumination, can a Hua Ji year make the person “let it go”?
A Hua Ji year usually makes letting go harder. That year suits writing the worries down, seeing a doctor, treating sleep as a project—not hoping the character suddenly becomes Taiyang. Taiyang’s outlet is daytime action. Taiyin’s outlet is turning night fog into sentences.
On the same chart as Ziwei, will one want face and one want safety, and clash?
They will, and it is common. Ziwei wants the room; Taiyin wants the nest. People who want both most fear turning home into court. Leave deciding at the office, and give the night back to Taiyin. Then the two stars can sit at the same table.
